Warcraft Night Elf

I'm not really a big video game person. Not because I find them uninteresting, it's because I know that my completist and obsessive nature will make me a hopeless addict. I wanted to stay away from Warcraft. I really did. But dammit, somebody had to give me the complete Battle Chest (that's Warcraft 2 and 3) as a birthday gift (Thanks Beau!) What resulted was weeks forever lost in the land of Azeroth. When I tried to go cold turkey, I went through some bad withdrawal and what resulted was this fan drawing. It took me a while to finish because, well, I started playing Warcraft again. I FINALLY finished the entire game and the illustration as well. I'm done! Wait, what do you mean there's still World of Warcraft? ...Nooooo!

Elektra Again

Sooner than later I guess.

Elektra

It's been a while since I posted a new picture. Here's one of the many things I have been working on. Funny, it was supposed to be something quick and fun but turned out more frustrating and time consuming than I thought. I probably redrew that dang face over 5 times. I'll finish the background later...way, later.

What am I doing?

It's Monday night, I'm tired and I'm still re-painting this thing. I said I was done earlier but my dang OCD won't let me finish! I re-re-re-drew the nose, lightened her face and added more eye shadow. Like you can tell the difference. So... tired. I wanna take a shower, I wanna brush my teeth, I wanna got to bed! *sob*

(For the record, I do not have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). OCD is a horrible mental illness that should not be taken in slight. I'm just really anal and whiney.)

The Witch

What was supposed to be a quick practice painting took me three days. I just couldn't get the stupid nose right! Accursed nose. I like the colors but I think the face needs, I dunno, improvement of some kind. Another nose job? I need more practice.

Well, I didn't want to work on it anymore my butt and back is starting to hurt from sitting so long. I need something more ergonomic than my $39 Staples office chair. Ow.

Hulk Smoosh! I Mean Smash!

One of the common criticisms I got for my drawings is that my men looked ga... effeminate. For practice and just to prove that I can draw people with balls, I sketched the most testosteronie character I know,The Hulk. By the way my favorite Hulk artist is Leinil Yu. So if you see a slight resemblance, guilty as charged.

Hmm, I think the sketch came out pretty good. May be I'll do a full illustration of him someday. By the way he's standing on cracked pavement not bursting through a wall or anything.

The Pet Rocket

As mentioned before I now have a new pet betta. Actually, this is my second one, the first one was an iridescent blue, and well… died within hours. Never have I had a pet die so fast under my care. My pet owning anxieties resurfaced, but I decided to get another victim anyway…

The pet fish store said it was probably a freak thing and exchanged it with another fish. The next one was a dark red, I determined that the previous one died because I hadn't named him. I promptly christened the new fish, on the subway ride home, Rocket.

I guess it took to his new name because the lil' guy zipped out of the plastic bag like he was escaping Guantanamo. I can't blame him, he was living in a bowl the size of a tea cup and now he's in a luxurious 2 gallon tank.

He seemed a bit neurotic at first, flying up and down the tank wall, but he's settled down now. His prior living conditions at the pet store weren't the best, as I later noticed he had fin rot (caused by dirty water). I treated him with some herbal medicine (yes, there's herbal medicine for fish.) His fins are growing back a little gnarly but all in all he's alert, curious and eats like a pig. All good signs. He hates fingers though. Don't point your finger at him, it freaks him out.

Oh, did I mention he's a food snob? Wouldn't eat the $3.50 fish food but he'll gladly eat the $7.99 one. Spoiled brat.

Magik

My first project on the Cintiq.

I Apologize to No One!

It has been a while since I have posted and I reiterate, I apologize to no one! Mainly, because no one reads my blog so there's really no one to apologize to. Yes, except for you Jeff, thanks, but I'm still not apologizing.

So many eventful, uh… events have occurred in the past few weeks.

1) I am now a proud pet owner! I received a betta splenden (a.k.a. Siamese fighting fish) as a birthday present from Kemp (a.k.a. my roommate). Will post more about it later.

2) Cintiq! I have a Wacom Cintiq now! For those of you not familiar with this uberliciously, fantastical, state-of-the-art computer equipment, it is a monitor. Oh, ho, ho but not just any monitor! It's a big freakin' monitor that I can actually draw on, directly ON THE SCREEN! It cost me $2370.25 and I had to wait nearly two months. Worth the wait and it's sweet, so, so sweet.

To my fellow art farts, if you're willing to trek all the way to Queens, feel free to come by and use it any time. But I warn thee, if it travels beyond a 10 foot radius from my apartment metal spikes will shoot out impaling the pilferer. Wacom thinks of everything.

3) MoCCa festival! This year I attended my first indy comic convention. It was great! There was a wonderful buzz of creative energy and excitement about comics all around. Ever since the Tribe Sessions (a semi-regular meeting of artists, headed by my former instructor Louis Mitchell) had stopped I haven't had my regular dose of creative enthusiasm in a while. I miss it very much. I met old co-workers from Marvel Comics, old classmates from School of Visual Arts, Tribe members, and even met a few new people. It was good. I'll definitely attend next year, hopefully with a portfolio to show off this time!

4) My sister, Chinami, came to visit during the Fourth of July week. As a result I had to cater to her every whim. I can't help it, she has psychologically conditioned me at an early age to obey her. All joking aside, it was wonderful to see her, plus she pays for all meals! How awesome is that! I played tour guide all over the city, visited Central Park about 5 times and got to see Shakespeare in the Park and the Wicked! musical. (My sister won the daily lottery where you can get first row seats for $26.50, wow!). We also saw the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks. She was here for a total 12 days and I need another vacation just to recover. Phew!

I've been busy, can you blame for not posting for so long?

Lazy Monday.

Woke up at 10AM, bake banana bread, sleep, eat banana bread, sleep, eat dinner.
That's all I did today...and it was great... I want to have every Monday off like this.

Oh, but I wasn't totally unproductive I finished up that Asajj Ventress illustration I've been talking about. Nothing fancy. I want to practice doing more pencil rendering. I'm always impressed by people who can do those gorgeous gradations in pencils. Alas, I'm not so skilled yet so I ended up doing some touch up in Photoshop and added a textured paper on it to make it look a bit more cooler.

Oh, and the banana bread came out quite yummy.

The Oracle: In Progress

For Memorial day weekend, I've decided just to chill, just chill and draw...

It's been a while since I ever had the time to just sit and draw for hours on end, it's uhmm, therapeutic? No that's not the word. Hmmm, I guess it's more like a recharging of my creative batteries.

Well, here is a illustration in mid progress. Tentatively titled, "The Oracle".

I'm also working on two Asajj Ventress illustrations and I still have to finish that Warcraft Nightelf drawing... not mention that comic book I've been wanting to finish in time for the MoCCa festival. Ackpth!

Why, are you doing so many projects at once, Lynne? Is somebody paying you to do this? No, nobody's payin' me, I'm just crazy.

Angry Bald Chick: Asajj Ventress Sketch

For my birthday I received, The Art of Star Wars: Episode 3 and Dressing a Galaxy, two books that have been on my wish list for a very long time. (Thanks Bowie!) The art and costumes in the books are breathtaking.

Inspired, I did a little sketch of Asajj Ventress. Though she never appeared in the movies, conceptually she is an awesome character and maybe someday I will do a full illustration of her.

I'm 31!!!!

It's my birthday today, and for my birthday resolution I've decided to be better at posting regularly. I've also decided to post a little comic strip. My goal is to put one up at least once a month. I hope to put other arty stuff too. Anyway, here is the debut of my strip, Lunch Break Cartoons, featuring a cartoon version of me. Cuz, I'm just so freaking hilarious.

It's Glorious Groundhog's Day!

...and I'm sure all the groundhogs will agree..

It can't be fun being trapped in a plexi-glass box in the freezing cold and flash photograped by a bunch of strangers. Oh, and for those who are curious, apparently there will be an early spring this year.

First Cartoon!

Oh, wait here's a recent cartoonie I did. I'm painting this on canvas and was planning to give it to my friend Beau as a Christmas present. Weelll... It's the end of January and the painting is still not finished... uuuhh... next Christmas, maybe? It's supposed to be bathroom art. I think the subject is fitting don't ya think?

Start takin bets

Let's see how long this lasts. Everybody start placing your bets. Mind you the last time I tried it, it was 2 years ago and lasted ONE DAY. I'll try to put some doodles in too. Please look forward.
